Disposal in Germany
The disposal routes listed are based on the requirements applicable in Germany (VerpackG, AltholzV, GewerbeabfallV) as well as standard municipal practice as of August 2026. The specific assignment to bins, sacks or collection systems may vary depending on the municipality, district and individual waste management contract. For binding information, please contact your local waste management authority or appointed commercial waste contractor.
From 12 August 2028 — or 24 months after the entry into force of the relevant implementing acts of the European Commission, if that date is later — a uniform, harmonised EU labelling system for packaging will be introduced pursuant to Art. 12 of Regulation (EU) 2025/40 (PPWR). Until that date, the national disposal routes described above apply; these instructions will be updated accordingly once the harmonised labelling becomes applicable.

B2B / Commercial delivery
Certified wood waste contractor. Commercial recipients dispose of larger wooden crates and pallets via a certified wood waste contractor. Hellmann Poultry untreated wooden packaging (natural, mechanically processed only) generally falls under wood waste category A I pursuant to § 2 No. 4 AltholzV; treated wooden packaging or packaging containing wood preservatives must be classified in a higher category (A II–A IV) and labelled accordingly. Basis: Law (AltholzV)
B2C / End customer
Recycling centre / municipal wood waste collection. As a private individual, take the wooden crate to the municipal recycling centre (bulky waste / wood waste collection). It must not be placed in the general waste bin. Basis: Municipal
Paper/Cardboard

Paper bin: Flatten cardboard and paper padding and place them in the blue paper bin. Basis: Municipal

Commercial recycler (alternatively yellow bin / yellow sack, where permitted). Larger volumes of plastic film from B2B deliveries should be disposed of via a commercial plastic packaging recycler. Basis: Law / EPR

Yellow bin / yellow sack. Plastic films and strapping bands go in the yellow bin or yellow sack. Basis: EPR / Municipal

B2C / End customer
Yellow bin / yellow sack (metal fraction). Small metal parts (clips, buckles) can be disposed of via the yellow bin, provided they consist predominantly of metal or composite materials. Basis: EPR / Municipal

Mixed, non-packaging-specific residual fractions from commercial deliveries (e.g. rubber mats, adhesive tape, desiccants) that are not already licensed under a dual system are subject to the separate collection requirement under the Commercial Waste Ordinance and must be disposed of via the company’s commercial waste contractor.
